Strategic Leadership Transition at MM Packaging Deeside
MM Packaging Deeside, the Scotland-based packaging specialist, has officially announced the appointment of Dave Whitworth as its new managing director. Whitworth, who has been a key member of the leadership team since 2018, steps into the role following a successful tenure as the company’s operations director.
A Proven Track Record in Operations
Whitworth’s journey to the helm of the Deeside facility is backed by extensive industry experience. His career began at Metal Box, followed by a progression through the ranks at Oldham-based Ribble Packaging, where he served as a shift manager and later as a production manager. Before joining the MM Packaging team, he also gained valuable experience working as an operations manager at TRM.
During his time as operations director at MM Packaging, Whitworth was instrumental in driving operational excellence. Key achievements under his guidance include:
- Prioritizing health and safety as a core pillar of the company’s operational strategy.
- Spearheading the development of the current Deeside facility.
- Overseeing the complex transition and move from the company’s previous site.
Commitment to Innovation and Workforce Development
In his new capacity, Whitworth aims to leverage the company’s strong foundations to drive future growth. Emphasizing the importance of staying ahead in a competitive market, he noted, “At MM Packaging, we go beyond providing standard cartons, and it’s important that we remain inventive and innovative in an ever-changing packaging landscape.”

A significant portion of his leadership philosophy focuses on people. Whitworth played a vital role in launching the company’s apprenticeship scheme, which is supported by the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF). The three-year manufacturing apprenticeship program continues to be a success, with the company welcoming seven new apprentices last year alone.
Leadership Perspective
Dieter Allitsch, managing director of MM Group Western Europe food and specialities, expressed confidence in the new appointment. “As operations director, he has driven positive change across the business, and his in-depth knowledge of the packaging sector will now benefit us moving forward as we continue to meet the sustainable cartonboard packaging needs of our customers,” Allitsch stated.
As Whitworth takes the lead, the company remains committed to its ongoing strategy of investing in new equipment and developing internal talent to maintain its position in the packaging industry.
